Boxing Promoter Helliet Plans Big Southampton Fight Night

Promoter Mickey Helliet promises ‘Blood, Sweat and Drama at Club Oceana’ on Southampton’s next big fight night.

Helliet is putting together a 12-fight bill at the city centre nightclub that will include rising stars Jon Fernandes, Matty Tew and Portsmouth puncher Mark Coombs.

Fernandes, a stylish super-bantamweight, heads home having claimed the best win of his professional career last week.

He outpointed former English champion and British title challenger Marc Callaghan over six rounds at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair on Helliet’s Mayfair Sporting Club dinner show.

Helliet reckons Fernandes, an ABA Novice champion as an amateur with Golden Ring ABC, will be battling for belts before the end of the year and all-action lightweight Tew also has title ambitions after starting his professional career with five straight wins.

Tew is a season-ticket holder at Southampton FC and is planning a double celebration in 2011.

He hopes Saints will gain promotion to the Championship – and he can bring a title back to his home city.

Coombes is a highly-rated light middleweight. He made an impressive professional debut last September by wiping out usually durable Davey Jones inside three rounds and the show in Southampton will also feature the paid debut of Guernsey flyweight sensation Bradl Watson.

Helliet will be hoping the 20 year-old known as ‘Glamour Boy’ can emulate another of his boxers, Ashley Sexton, and box for major honours at 8 stones.
