WAYNE, NJ (February 10, 2006) -- Promoter Gary Shaw announced last night that he has been empowered by Winky Wright to consummate the previously negotiated contract between Wright, world middleweight champion Jermain Taylor, and HBO.
"Jim Wilkes, Winky's attorney and representative, contacted me last night and authorized me to conclude the negotiations for Winky's title challenge, under the terms and conditions already agreed upon by Team Wright, Team Taylor and HBO," said Shaw. "Winky realizes how important this fight is to boxing and its fans and he is ready, willing and able to fight Jermain on June 17, per the contract. I will be forwarding the executed contract with Winky's signature to Lou DiBella and HBO for their signatures -- well before the WBC purse bid."
