Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, sent a communication to the WBC office requesting the approval of the next fight by the WBC SILVER BELT WORLD CHAMPION Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to be for the vacant undisputed WBC super welterweight championship, as it is going to be held on March 5th, and it would fill immediately the super welterweight vacancy in the WBC, with the winner being committed to make his next defense against the official challenger designated by the WBC.

The president of the WBC Jose Sulaiman, is putting into consideration of the WBC Board of Governors, this request by promoter Golden Boy and will have a decision within a week.

Matthew Hatton has a record of 41-4-2; he is the European Boxing Union´s welterweight champion with 3 title defenses up to now; he also held the title of the Common Wealth ( British Empire), before becoming the EBU champion.

Saul " Canelo" Alvarez has a record of 35-0-1, and is the WBC Silver Belt World Champion, that gives him the legal position of becoming the automatic official challenger to the super welterweight title.
