& Celebrity Reception

Newark,
New Jersey-Today, former NJ Boxing Commissioner, Larry Hazzard,
announced that his youth organization, C.O.M.B.A.T.T., will be
celebrating its Tenth Anniversary on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the
Annual Awards Dinner & Celebrity Reception held at the Robert
Treat Hotel in Newark, NJ. This year’s recipients include, Tom
Kaczmarek, Chairman of the WBC Ring Officials Review Board &
former world boxing judge, Melvina Lathan, New York State Boxing
Chairman & world boxing judge, Vernoca L. Michael, owner of the
famous Blue Horizon in Philadelphia, Pa, Marc Ratner, former
Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission and Vice
President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for the Ultimate
Fighting Championship (UFC), Dr. Michael Schwartz, Connecticut Chief
Ringside Physician and founder of the American Association of
Professional Ringside Physicians (AAPRP), Wayne Smith, Mayor of
Irvington, NJ & and Jose Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing
Council (WBC).
According
to C.O.M.B.A.T.T. founder, Larry Hazzard, "This year’s awards
dinner has a very special significance because it is our 10th anniversary. We are calling it a reunion celebration because we have
invited all of our past honorees to attend. We are looking forward,
with great anticipation, to seeing everyone in attendance."
Former world heavyweights Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks are among
some of the celebrities expected to be in attendance. Also
confirmed will be world bantamweight, super bantamweight and two-time
NY Golden Gloves champion, Junior Jones, former world champion and
five-time NY Golden Gloves and Olympic Gold Medalist, Mark Breland,
and World Boxing Hall of Famer, Gaspar Ortega, among many others.
C.O.M.B.A.T.T.
is an acronym for Community Organization Making Better Alternatives
Today for Tomorrow. The non-profit organization assists young boxers
with their amateur boxing and other professional career goals, as
well as, offers seminars on conflict resolution, anger management,
improved decision-making, gang, drug & alcohol prevention,
financial planning & money management, and healthy living.
Dinner
chairman and world championship referee, Benjy Estevez, had these
words to say about the upcoming event, "C.O.M.B.A.T.T. is based
upon the support we get from those of you who attend our event every
year. Our primary quest has always been to help inner city youths
reach their goals in life, have a safe haven to train, learn
self-discipline and respect and to develop into healthy, successful
and productive citizens. Besides helping youth by supporting the
event, guests in attendance can also meet the celebrities in person,
get autographs and take photos with many of the celebrities in
attendance."
The
group is looking forward to another star-studded and entertaining
boxing gala that the dinner has become over the years. A celebrity
reception is scheduled for 5:30 pm and the awards dinner
presentations begin at 6:45 pm. Tickets are $100. For more
