Former NBA Star Kendall Gill will return to the pro boxing ring this Friday night

CHICAGO, IL (April 28, 2010) Former NBA Star Kendall Gill will return to the professional boxing ring this Friday night, April 30th at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion as one of the featured off-TV undercard bouts on the SHOWTIME ® televised “THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHTS.

Presented by DiBella Entertainment, Warriors Boxing and Chicago’s 8 Count Productions, advance tickets for THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHTS, starting at $31, can be purchased through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com, phone 1-800-745-3000) and the 8 Count Productions Office, (312-226-5800). Doors on the evening of the event will open at 7:00pm with the first bell at 7:30pm.

Gill, 3-0-0 (2KO’s), will square off against Miles Kelly, 1-1-0 (1KO), in a scheduled four round heavyweight bout.

“I’ve wanted to get back in the ring for some time; most recently I’ve been training for the last two months at JABB Boxing Gym with Mike Garcia and Luis Mateo. I’m in terrific shape and can’t wait to get back in the ring” said Gill who last fought professionally in 2005.

A native of nearby Olympia Fields, Gill graduated from Rich Central High School in 1986, going on to the University of Illinois where he played four years for the Fighting Illini. As a junior, he led the 1989 team to the Final Four where they were dubbed the “Flying Illini” for their high flying, high scoring offense.

After fifteen years in the NBA, including the 2003-2004 season with the Chicago Bulls, Gill took his training to JABB Boxing Gym where he received the best training of his athletic career.

“I thought I was in great shape while playing in the NBA, but training to box put me in a completely different physical mold as a person” said Gill, who currently works as an NBA analyst for Comcast Sports Net Chicago.

The televised tripleheader of “THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHTS” featured Chicago’s Donovan “DA BOMB” George, (19-0-1, 17KO’s) taking on Osumanu Adama, (14-1, 10KO’s), Marcus “TOO MUCH” Johnson, (18-0, 14KO’s) battling Derek “THE BLACK LION” Edwards, (25-0, 13KO’s) and Edwin “LA BOMBA” Rodriguez, (14-0, 10KO’s) tangling with Kevin Engel, (17-2, 14KO’s).
