Australian Junior Welterweight Champion Mick 'Pony' Shaw is putting the finishing touches on his preparation for the toughest fight of his career as he sets to face World Title Contender Nedal 'Skinny' Hussein in Sydney on Friday night. Shaw is a throw back fighter from the ilk of Barry Michaels, Les Darcy and the likes.. He is tough, commited and loves to fight. All this whilst holding down a full time job as a plasterer. He competes as a professional prizefighter in his spare time because he loves the combat. In this fight Shaw has everything to win and nothing to lose.

This is a fact not lost on the tough Queenslander. "I know everyone expects Skinny to take me out early, but I am in the best shape of my life and more than ready to give Skinny a tough fight." Shaw stated. "I am travelling to Sydney to win, not just be an opponent for Hussein." he added.

Shaw has never fougt anyone of the level of Hussein and many boxing insiders view this as nothing more than a warm up for Hussein before he contests another World Title bout, but to underestimate Shaw could prove a costly mistake. Shaw's trainer Glenn Azar is very confident of his charge winning the fight, "I would never put Mick in the ring if I didn't think he had a chance of winning. I am very happy with his training, he is hungry, you can see the fire in his eyes. Skinny is in for a hell of a fight." Azar stated emphatically.

So why is the Shaw camp so confident they can match it with the Jeff Fenech trained Hussein? "Simply because we know that Mick has done the work and has a great team around him." Azar said.

Team Shaw consists of trainer Glenn Azar, technique coach Gilbert Hooper, conditioning specialist Bill Ryan, exercise scientist Aaron Hogben, Brian Berry and long time mate Mick Betros. "Between us we have got Mick peaking just right." Azar said, "He is jumping out of his skin just wanting to get a crack at Skinny."

The final word from Shaw is," This is my World Title shot, every kid in boxing dreams of this and Skinny had better be prepared for war."

The NO FEAR: Forum Fite Nite is on this Friday at Auburn RSL in Sydney.
