Yet Another Opponent For The Ghost, Hinojosa Steps In
By Brian Blake, Doghouse Boxing (June 7, 2009)
The original plan for former two-time IBF featherweight king Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero was for him to take on Johnnie Edwards in an ESPN televised main event next Friday, June 12, from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. That would soon fall through with Edwards, 15-4-1 (8), on Monday citing back injury suffered in training camp leaving the folks at Golden Boy Promotions to scramble for a replacement.

With Chris John stateside for his upcoming rematch with Rocky Juarez later this month they would turn
to one of his sparring partners, Jackson Asiku. Asiku, 25-3 (13), who is currently riding a 14-fight winning streak, would too pull out of his proposed fight against Guerrero with an injury, once again leaving Golden Boy Promotions looking for another fighter to step in.

As of now, that fighter will be the veteran Mexican fighter Efren Hinojosa. Hinojosa, 30-5-1 (17), has won only one fight via disqualification in his last five bouts. His last notable win came just short of five years ago when he beat Jose Soto Karass.

Guerrero was last seen as part of HBO’s Boxing After Dark triple header last March which also took place at the HP Pavilion. His fight with Indonesian fighter Daud Yordan was called off in the second rounds after a clash of heads left Guerrero unable to continue.

Even with the carousel of opponents Guerrero looks to once again showcase his talent and put himself into the mix for a world title.

Tickets, priced at $100.00, $75.00, $50.00 and $25.00, are now on sale at the HP Pavilion Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 800-745-3000 or online at
