Austin Trout Upsets Rigoberto Alvarez To Claim Vacant Title

Mandatory challenger Austin Trout, 22-0-(13), scored a unanimous 12 round points win over Rigoberto Alvarez to claim the WBA ‘regular’ junior-middleweight title at the Arena Coliseo in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on Saturday night.

The 25 year-old from New Mexico preserved his unbeaten record when all three judges declared him a clear 119-108 winner. Alvarez, who was the WBA ‘Interim’ champion falls to 26-3-(19).

For the record Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico is the recognised WBA junior middleweight champion, having won the title from Yuri Foreman at the Yankee Stadium in, Bronx, New York in June, 2010.

On the undercard Jesus Silvestre knocked out Yader Escobar in the fourth round of a light-flyweight bout.
