In a welterweight outing on Friday night, super lightweight Antonio “Relentless”
Orozco, 19-0 (15), nearly found himself on the canvas again in the same venue
where he tasted his previous knockdown as the San Diego-based Kansas City native
was nailed hard by a counter left hook from hard-hitting southpaw Miguel Angel “El
Anestesista” Huerta, 27-12-1 (18). The shot landed right on Orozco’s chin midway
into the first round of the Golden Boy Promotions/Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes
main event at the Fantasy Springs Casino Event Center.
Orozco, dazed and on rubbery
legs, managed to get out of the round with Huerta in hot pursuit.
Regaining his bearings,
Orozco went on to trade with Huerta in a wild second round in which a jolting
right caught and sent Huerta crashing face-first onto the canvas.
Sensing the finish, Orozco
jumped in and let his punches go. After several unanswered shots landed on Huerta
while on the ropes, referee Pat Russell had seen enough, ending the contest at
1:00 of the round.

Julian Ramirez vs. Derrick Wilson

In the co-featured bout,
southpaw Julian “El Camaron” Ramirez, 10-0 (6), remained undefeated as he won
an eight-round unanimous decision over fast but wild Derrick Wilson, 10-6-2 (3).
Picking his shots, Ramirez managed
to score two knockdowns in the first and seventh rounds en route to a unanimous
decision via scores of 79-71 and 78-72 (twice).

In a non-televised IBF super
welterweight title eliminator, former IBF champion Cornelius “K9” Bundrage, 33-5
(19), defeated southpaw Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez, 23-2-1 (13).
Bundrage
played with having a point taken away for landing (at last count, eight) low
blows while suffering cuts below his left eye and between his eyebrows due to
accidental headbutts. Bundrage used his superior reach and speed to mark up and
cut Hernandez, who threw his own shots sporadically, en route to winning a
unanimous decision via scores of 118-110 on all cards.
In other results, 2012 U.S.
Olympic heavyweight Dominic “Trouble” Breazeale, 9-0 (9), stopped a very game
300-pounder in Homer “The Bear” Fonseca, 10-7-3 (3), as the latter's corner
asked for the fight to be stopped after the third round as its fighter punched
himself out. To be fair, Fonseca did nail Breazeale at times with wild shots
while the fight lasted.
Super featherweight Santiago
Guevara, 6-0 (3), scored a split decision over Rocco Espinoza, 4-8, in a four-rounder.
The official ringside scores read 39-37, Guevara (twice), and 37-39, Espinoza.
Kevin Watts, 4-0 (2),
defeated Julian Cruz, 2-3, by unanimous decision via scores of 40-35 and 39-36
(twice).
Super welterweight Tevin
Watts, 1-0, and Gustavo Lopez, 0-1-1, fought to a majority draw in a scheduled
four-rounder. Scores were 39-37 and 38-38 (twice).
