Russia’s Sergey Kovalev, 19-0-1 (17), looks to extend his unbeaten boxing record but in doing so must beat Spain’s Gabriel Campillo, 21-4-1 (8), who most people believe should be IBF light heavyweight champion after controversial loss in his last fight to Tavoris Cloud.

Kovalev living in FL has only fought in Russia twice. He looks to put himself in title contention with a win on this Main Events show at the Mohegan Sun Casino, in Uncasville, CT on January 19h. It will be viewed over USA NBC Sports Network. He is ranked No. 8 WBC and No. 10 WBA.

Campillo tried reversing one of his defeats to Karo Murat two fights ago but was only able to get a draw in Germany. He won the WBA title over Beibut Shumenov in August of 2009 only to lose the rematch January 2010. He is No. 3 in the IBF rankings.

Curtis “Showtime” Stevens, 22-3 (16), of Brownsville, NY, returns to action after close to a year lay-off against Elvin Ayala, 26-5-1 (12), of New Haven, CT, in a 10 round middleweight bout.

Stevens has only had one fight since losing to Jesse Brinkley 2 years ago. Ayala has won his last 6 fights and is now trained by Marshall Kauffman. This promises to be a very good match-up.

Philly area fighters Jason Sosa, 7-1-3 (3), of Camden, NJ, and Philly’s Joey Dawejko, 7-1-1 (3) will be on the undercard. Sosa takes on Joseph Perez, 10-1 (3), from East Hartford, CT, in a 6 round super featherweight match-up. Dawejko, is in a heavyweight 4 against Jarrell Miller, 4-0 (4), of New York.

In another 8 Marcus Upshaw, 4-8-2 (6), of Jacksonville, FL, fights Vladine Biosse, 14-1-1 (7), of Providence RI, in a super middleweight fight. Upshaw is coming off a loss in Mexico for the WBC World Youth title. Biosse defeated popular RI fighter Joey Spina two fights ago.
