HBO Picks the Right Boxing Rematch

My old running mate Doug Fischer reported on RingTv that HBO has purchased the rematch between WBC lt. heavyweight titlist Jean Pascal and Bernard Hopkins - who fought to a controversial draw on Dec. 18th- and will be televising it on May 21st. And they have cut a deal to have Chad Dawson, who had a rematch clause with Pascal (who defeated him last August) to appear on the undercard and then face the winner.

It’s the right call in my view. The public wanted to see this rematch, not the one with Dawson. HBO listened to the public, something they don’t do nearly enough.

- May 21st now has dueling shows between Showtime and HBO, as the Super Six continues between Carl Froch and Glen Johnson on Showtime and now HBO has added this fight to the schedule

- As for who Dawson might be fighting on that card, I’m told it will not be IBF champion Tavoris Cloud, simply no room in that budget for that one.
