Weekend Boxing Fight Picks - Amir Khan vs Paulie Malignaggi, Victor Ortiz vs Nate Campbell and More
By Steve Kim, MaxBoxing (May 15, 2010) Special to Doghouse Boxing
There were fireworks at the weigh-in for the Amir Khan-Paulie Malignaggi fight that takes place tomorrow night at the WaMu Theater inside MSG. The big question is, will the actual bout be half as entertaining. I mean, both guys like to box and Khan, who has the better physical tools has a shaky beard. But Malignaggi as it relates to power, is a Freddie Patek slap-hitter. It says here that Khan fights a bit more aggressively knowing that Malignaggi speaks loudly and carries a small stick and will do enough to win a wide decision.

And I like Victor Ortiz to use his superior legs and box his way to victory over Nate Campbell. I think Ortiz is now a guy who will be much more cautious in his approact post-Maidana. As for Campbell, not only is he getting long in the tooth, not sure he is really a 140-pounder.

- Sergio Mora texted me to tell me that he isn’t balking at facing Mathew Macklin, but that he’d rather face him in a bigger setting like England instead of on a pay-per-view show that may not hold much interest out here. It’s hard to argue with him in that respect.

- Welterweight Mike Jones has finalized his deal to face Irving Garcia on July 9th, but I’m told ESPN has turned down that fight. Seriously, his promoter, Russell Peltz and ESPN, just don’t see eye-to-eye.

This week’s edition of “The Main Event” features Larry Merchant of HBO Sports and Lem Satterfield of Fanhouse.com......
