Freddie Roach's Wild Card Boxing Club and Joe Goossen's Gym Updates
By Steve Kim, MaxBoxing (May 20, 2010) Special to Doghouse Boxing
I dropped by the Wild Card Boxing Club on Wednesday afternoon and asked if Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who it was announced about three weeks ago as Freddie Roach’s newest high profile client, was finally working at the gym. Word is that he has juuuuuust recieved his Visa to enter the country and will be here Thursday.

Now, which Thursday I’m not sure. But this is cutting it close, isn’t it? After all, we are less than six weeks to his fight against John Duddy on June 26th in San Antonio, Texas. What really concerns Roach isn’t so much the boxing work in his gym, but really the time not conditioning (which is really the central issue with Junior) with Alex Ariza.

Again, I’m not buying this ’new and improved’ Chavez Jr. till I actually see some evidence of it.

- Meanwhile, earlier today I dropped by Joe Goossen’s gym and I saw his newest fighter, Jesus Soto-Karass who fights next Saturday in Chicago on Top Rank Live. He looks to be in very good shape. Goossen said bluntly that when he first got him, he was,"Out of shape." But he stuck it out, and he looks like he’s ready to go.

- I haven’t heard anything regarding Floyd Mayweather - Manny Pacquiao negotiations from either Top Rank or Golden Boy. I take that as good news...
