James Kirkland vs Saul Alvarez?

With the unfortunate
circumstances surrounding Paul Williams (williams crash likely paralyzed),
there was still the business of boxing to attend to. And WBC junior
middleweight titlist Saul Alvarez, who was to have faced Williams on September
15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, needed a new foe.
It looks like the focus is
now on James Kirkland, who struggled mightily before prevailing over Carlos
Molina via 10th round disqualification in Houston back in March.
Kirkland was originally offered this fight but it was then decided by his
handlers that because of surgery to his right shoulder, he would have to return
in October. But with the recent events, Kirkland has made it clear that he will
be OK physically (he's thought to be ahead in his recovery) and more than
willing to accept this assignment.
“All were arguing about is
the money,” said one source close to the negotiations.
