Boxing Notes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, plus Mayweather, Pacquiao and more

Lem Satterfield of BoxingScene reported on Thursday that
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.'s next bout could be moving from September 24th to November 19th. A couple
of thoughts on that move…
-First,
a boxing insider predicted earlier this week to me that there was no way Floyd
Mayweather / Golden Boy, who have a pay-per-view show on
September 17th,
would want Arum to have this date to go along with the replay of Victor Ortiz-Mayweather
the week after. I'd say this guy was prophetic.
-Second, November
19th makes sense since the week before is Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan
Manuel Marquez III, so whichever network gets that fight may have a live fight
to dovetail with that replay broadcast (I'm not sure if HBO has future rights
on Chavez Jr. or not, so that's a whole 'nother issue).
-Lastly, the reason why Top Rank and those
associated with Chavez Jr. wanted him to fight in late September was that it
made sense from a logistical standpoint since his trainer Freddie Roach would
be with him in the summer months at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood. If he fights in November, Chavez Jr. would be forced
to make his camp alongside Pacquiao in the
Philippines.
Folks, it's hard enough to get him to Southern California for
six-to-eight weeks; good luck sending him to Baguio for two months.
