Boxing Flurries - Marcos Maidana, Erik Morales, HD version of 'Star Power' and more

As the NFL season kicks off, a few boxing updates. An attempt by Golden Boy was made to lure Marcos Maidana into fighting Erik Morales again on Sept. 17th on the ’Star Power’ pay-per-view card. But Maidana will stick to fighting on September 23rd in Argentina, instead. From what I’m told, Anthony Crolla, who was originally slated to face ’el Terrible’ on this show and was put on this undercard at the MGM Grand, may get this assignment, after all.
The WBC wouldn’t dare sanction this as a title fight, would they? ( And did I just ask a rhetorical question?)
- By the way, to purchase the HD version of ’Star Power’ it will cost you about $70? That’s insane. Will it be long before we get a $100 pay-per-view? I mean, the boxing industry does know that times are tough, right?
- While at the media day for Alfonso Gomez, who faces Saul Alvarez on ’Star Power’ at the Staples Center, Garry Gittelsohn his manager, told me that his other client, Brian Viloria, may defend his WBO flyweight title against Giovanni Segura on Dec. 10th in Manila, Philippines.
