It may not quite harken back to the olden days, but there is boxing to be seen on Saturday afternoon, but instead of being on CBS, NBC or ABC, it will be on premium cable and on the internet. Which I guess is the way of the world in 2011.
If you have access to ESPN3.com, you can see the WBA jr. welter eliminator between Breidis Prescott and Paul McCloskey from Ireland.
At 4:45 ET/1:45 PT, HBO will have a live airing of the WBC heavyweight title bout between Vitali Klitschko and Tomasz Adamek in Poland (with that fight being shown again later that night with the bout between Yuriorkis Gamboa and Daniel Ponce de Leon from Atlantic City).
It goes to show you, with cards from Ireland, Poland where a crowd of over 45,000 is expected) and New Jersey, that boxing is a world-wide sport, more than ever.
