Mayweather Sentenced - Who does Pacquiao face Next? Arum asked to comment...

As you’ve heard by now, Floyd Mayweather was sentenced to a six-month sentence for domestic violence (yahoo.com/box/news) which pretty much puts any chance of a bout on May 5th with Manny Pacquiao out of the question. A promotion of this nature you need about 5-6 months to promote and market.

Now, the question is: who does ’the Pac Man’ face next? A fourth go-around with Juan Manuel Marquez is a natural and the name of Tim Bradley has been kicked around. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Miguel Cotto (who’s fight with Antonio Margarito did pretty well) get the call. Cotto was stopped by Pacquiao back in November of 2009.

I called Bob Arum for comment and he’s telling everyone ’no comment’ and wishing everyone a happy holidays. I’m told Top Rank has basically put a gag order on him for the moment. (Which is too bad, this is when he gives you some of his best material.)

But regardless, don’t expect Pacquiao-Mayweather to take place during the first half of 2012 ...
