ShoBox Coming Together

According to a source at Showtime, as it
relates to the bout for the WBA bantamweight title between Rico Ramos
and Guillermo Rigondeaux, it could land on their Jan. 20th ShoBox
telecast."That’s the plan... till it falls apart," said my source, with a
chuckle. But it does look like this is the direction it’s headed. A
bout between middleweight Brandon Gonzalez and Caleb Truax.
Also, on March 23rd it looks like Top Rank has a ShoBox card and it
will most likely feature middleweight Matt Korobov and lightweight
Mercito Gesta.
The Nielsens are out and it turns out that less than 500,000 live
viewers turned into ’the Super Six’ finals between Andre Ward and Carl
Froch last Saturday night. Which is a disappointing number given that
guys like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Saul Alvarez do three times that
number for their fights on HBO( which does have a larger subscriber
base). But regardless, this is evidence that while ’the SOG’ is very
talented and now very accomplished, there’s still a lot of work to be
done in terms of making him into a bona-fide star or attraction.
