A DiBella press release
did state that the main event of the 2012 “FNF” premiere will feature super
middleweights Dyah Davis vs. Alfonso Lopez. Davis rebounded from a lackluster
loss to Aaron Pryor late in 2010 to upset then-undefeated Marcus Johnson in
April and establish himself as a true prospect.
After building a record of
21-0, mostly in Texas, Lopez earned national recognition for his effort in a
majority decision loss to Kelly Pavlik on the Manny Pacquiao - Shane Mosley undercard
last May. If Lopez can find a way to cut off the ring and get inside on the
taller Davis, this could be a great fight. If either man wants to be considered
a true contender at 168, he has to find a way to win this fight convincingly.
The other scheduled match-up
is between undefeated up-and-comers Steven Martinez and Jonathan Cepeda. Both
stand at 11-0, with Cepeda holding 10 KOs to Martinez’s nine. It’s hard to know
what to expect as neither fighter has faced anything close to stiff
competition. Cepeda has built his record in the South while Martinez has had
easy opposition brought to him in the Northeast.
