The East Coast Finally Gets the Fight it Wanted: Wolak-Rodriguez II!

With Antonio Margarito
getting NYSAC approval to face Miguel Cotto this Saturday, East Coast boxing
fans will now get the fight they really want: the Pawel Wolak – Delvin
Rodriquez rematch. After their epic draw in July, in which Wolak’s eye swelled
to grotesque proportions, fight fans have wanted this fight as much as any
high-profile match-up. Wolak stated on the East Coast Boxing Report at www.blogtalkradio.com that he will
alter his strategy to not take as many punches this time around. However, he
also said we would see his aggressive, move-forward style as well. It remains
to be seen just how much a fighter like Wolak can change his strategy but I believe
when the bell rings, he knows only one way to fight…so we can expect another
great battle.
Mike Jones gets another
opportunity to impress on a PPV ticket as he faces Sebastian Lujan. Although he
won his rematch with Jesus Soto Karass, Jones hardly looked like a fighter
ready to challenge the biggest names atop the welterweight division. While
Lujan is hardly an easy out, Jones has to impress if he wants to be considered
ready for a big money fight. Then again, being aligned with Top Rank, maybe a
lackluster outing will give him his best shot at a huge money fight with Manny
Pacquiao.
Brandon Rios makes his first
appearance on the East Coast as he defends his WBA lightweight title against
Britain’s John Murray. Somehow, Murray “earned” his title shot by getting
knocked out by Kevin Mitchell. This fight being made stinks almost as bad as
the Timothy Bradley-Joel Casamayor debacle last month. It seems that Top Rank
is only looking to build a highlight reel in its hope for Rios to emerge as a
superstar as Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather inch closer to retirement.
