I know that the January 21st card at the Asylum Arena is only the first telecast by Kathy Duva and Main
Events on the network formerly called Versus but I was somewhat underwhelmed
when I heard the main event would be Eddie Chambers vs. Siarhei Liakhovich. I
was under the impression that Chambers was hurt and unable to face Tony
Thompson in a title eliminator. I guess he heals fast and Liakhovich at this
point is little more than a gatekeeper.
The televised undercard bout
features Gabriel Rosado vs. Jesus Soto Karass, which could be an exciting
scrap, but is it at all better that what we already get weekly on “Friday Night
Fights”?
Both Kathy Duva and
matchmaker J. Russell Peltz have earned the benefit of the doubt and I fully expect,
with everything in place and the right amount of time to put together the next
installment of the NBC Sports Network Fight Night in April, we’ll see a steady
improvement in the quality of fighters and fights.
