Daniel Miltz, Editor @ Miltz Boxing News. It has been said before that cars and boxers do not make a good mix. Well recently it has been guns and boxers. Remember a while back the husband of Christy Martin was arrested for shooting and fatally wounding the famous female boxer. Then shortly after, the IBF and IBA female lightweight champion Rola El-Halabi was shot and mortally injured whilst in the dressing room preparing for a fight. Her stepfather whom she had sacked as her representative, entered the dressing room, forced everyone else out, and then shot her three times, wounding her in the hand, foot and knee. He also shot two security guards before being overpowered and subdued.

Now on March 29, 2011, a 25-year-old Tijuana Baja California, Mexico boxer by the name of Humberto Tapia was shot twice in the abdomen at a Tijuana gymnasium during an argument by a local wrestling promoter who accused Tapia of having an affair with his wife. Tapia was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The gunman was subdued by witnesses and was arrested. Although of modest talent, Tapia was a busy fighter as he had a great chin, so usually went the distance, and gave more talented boxers some good grounding fights. He had a 15-16-1 record and had fought undefeated fighters such as Brandon Rios, Hector Sanchez, Rock Allen, Danny Garcia, Hylon Williams, Carlos Molina and Danny O’Connor

Tapia won the inaugural WBC FECOMBOX Light Welterweight title in September 2007, by way of a 12 round unanimous decision over Augusto Gamez.

In 2004, Tapia was named Rookie of the Year by the Tijuana Boxing Commission.

As of date, in the history of boxing from (A-Z) that I could find, there has been about 160 murdered boxers. Tapia very well could be number 161.
