Entertained website TMZ (as well as various media outlets, including the Associated Press) is reporting that former world heavyweight champion Leon Spinks has been hospitalized in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The 61 year-old, who is famous for defeating Muhammad Ali for the world heavyweight title in 1978, underwent surgery this past weekend which resulted in complications.

At first Spink’s health seemed to be getting worse but he is now said to be improving.

Leon’s good friend Tony Orlando -- the famous singer -- is asking people to "Please pray for my friend Leon Spinks" ... and said the boxer is "facing the greatest fight of his life."

The news comes at the same time that Ali’s brother was quoted as feeling poorly and former heavyweight title contender Joe Bugner suffered a reported heart attack.
