Paul Spadafora failed at the last hurdle to match Rocky Marciano’s magic 49-0 record when he was defeated for the first time by Johan Perez. Their battle on Saturday night was for the vacant WBA interim super lightweight title. The match-up went fown at the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort, Chester, West Virginia.

Spadafora, 48-1-1-(19), made a fast start but was cut over the left eye in round four. Spadafora returned the compliment in round six by cutting Perez over the right eye.
Despite Spadafora putting a late burst in the championship rounds, Perez was judged the winner on two cards.
The judges at ring side scored it 115-113 and 117-111 for Perez and an even 114-114.
