Adrien Broner & More Post Fight Boxing Quotes From Cincinnati SecondsOut (July 25, 2012) Doghouse Boxing - Tweet
SecondsOut.com. By Jose Santana Jr: Check out all the post fight quotes from last
weekend’s WBO super-featherweight title fight between Adrien Broner and
Vicente Escobedo in Cincinnati.
Andrew Williams, R&R Promotions: “It was a tremendous fight
tonight. It was very stressful at times as it related to the weight and
making the fight; making everything work, but Golden Boy hung in there,
we hung in there, made the fight happen, and I’m just really happy that
Adrien was able to display a great show for his hometown fans.”
Rolando Arellano, Escobedo’s manager: “(Broner) is an amazing young
man. He’s going to be the future of boxing. He was fast, he was strong.
Vicente Escobedo had his nose broken, and because of the weight
differrence and stuff the corner felt it was in his best interest to
stop the fight before he receives any damages. We will not stand here
and make any excuses whatsoever. Adrien deserves a great victory and I
would suggest that everyone keeps a good eye on him. With respects to
Vicente Escobedo he has a broken nose, we’re taking care of his health
and his welfare by transporting him to the hospital, and he will be back
and I can almost assure you that Broner will be champion at 135 pounds
and other weight classes and we will be champion at 130 pounds.”
Adrien Broner: "I stuck to the game plan today and that was have fun.
I want to thank (Escobedo) for taking he fight; world class fighter. He
still has a chance to win a world title someday, just today wasn’t his
day. Now we’re moving on. The task only gets bigger from here. Were
going to lightweight, give all of them hell. DeMarco can be next,
Marquez after that, Rios, anybody. (One-hundred) Thirty-five and up,
they can get it. I started a problem going into this fight, and I
finished it, like I was supposed to. He came to fight, but I was trying
to put him to sleep and they stopped it before I could. I started a
problem going into this fight, and I finished it, like I was supposed
to, Adrien “The Problem” Broner, thank you Cincinnati.”
Chris Pearson, 7-0 middleweight prospect: “(This win) it’s another
step in the process of trying to be a world champion. I’m just taking it
one fight at a time, allowing my management to push me the way they
want to push me. Al Haymon’s an excellent manager, he’s going to put me
in the position and all I have to do is continue to train and continue
to win. I knew (the knockout) was a matter of time. I could tell by the
way he came out – desperate, high volume; I wanted to be smart and use
my jab. I’ve been boxing a long time so I knew how to get my hands up,
move my head, and I knew it wasn’t going to last.”
Brandon Bennett, 14-0 lightweight prospect: “I haven’t fought in two
years so I felt a little rusty, but when I got back into my groove it
was cool then. Make him miss make him pay (was the plan). When I was
walking him down he couldn’t stand the pressure. He was a tough opponent
though. I want to thank everybody that came out to support the fights,
all of my fans, and I put on for my city.”
Danny Calhoun, 1-0 heavyweight: “(Palmer) was way bigger than me but I
never back down from anybody. They called me short notice but I stay in
the gym so I was ready for that. The guy was getting tired and he was
taking a lot of blows from me to the body which wore him down more. Soon
as I saw my opening, my opportunity, I just took advantage of it. I
just wanted to feel him out little bit, kind of see where he’s at.
That’s how you do it in boxing, check him out, don’t jump the gun too
early, and then when your moment comes you got to be ready to take
advantage of it. That was probably the most exciting knockout of the
night. I heard that from pretty much everybody I talked to. For that to
be my first pro fight, two minutes in, to knock the guy out like that in
that type of exciting fashion, you just can’t beat that. I’m going to
be fighting again. I’m with R&R (Promotions), and I’m the newest
‘bad boy,’ so they just got to be on the lookout for ‘Dangerous’ Danny
Calhoun and were going to take it o the top.”
