SecondsOut.com - Brian Rose won the British light-middleweight title with a 12 round split points decision win over Prince Arron in Wigan on Saturday night.

Rose adopted a long range performance to good effect when most experts believed he would take the fight to Arron. The lanky Prince Arron failed to get in close as Rose set him up with counter punches followed by big right hand punches.

Arron, did not appear to have any answers to Rose’ game plan as Rose continued to find a way through Arron’s, a sweet combination, as well as a big left hook, ensuring the challenger took a third successive round.

Arron did find his range in the fifth round when he starting beating Rose to the punch.

At the end of 12 rounds two judges made Rose the winner by scores of 117-113 116-113 the third official somehow scored the bout 115-114 for Arron.

Speaking to Skysports after the fight Rose said "Words can’t describe how I feel, it’s my dream come true," Rose told Sky Sports "I thought I won every round apart from two or three, I felt in control all the way through - I thought I won the fight easily.

"I said I was going to box for a few rounds and then take it to him, but I didn’t need to take it to him. What I was doing was working so I stuck to my guns and it worked for me.

"I was the underdog and it put the pressure on Prince Arron. If you know you’re the odds-on favourite it piles the pressure on, but I knew it was a 50-50 fight."

On the undercard, unbeaten Manchester prospect Karl Place suffered a second-round stoppage defeat to Steve Williams in an eliminator for the British light-welterweight crown .
