SecondsOut.com - Wladimir Klitschko has been forced to pull out of Saturday’s world heavyweight title defence against Jean-Marc Mormeck in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The WBA, WBO and IBF champ had a kidney stone removed at the weekend. It was initially thought Wladimir would be okay to fight but that is now not the case.

Klitschko was reportedly in ’extreme pain’ on Monday (Dec 5) and in no condition to face Mormeck.

"Wladimir is sad and devastated, but he again feels extreme pain," said manager Bernd Boente.

Prof. Dr. Peter Albers (head of the urology department of the University Hospital Düsseldorf) said in a statement: ”In his current state it would not be reasonable to compete in a world championship. After two surgeries within 24 hours, everyone needs time to recover".

The plans for rescheduling the fight see March 3 as a possible date. “Purchased tickets remain their validity”, says Bernd Bönte (Managing Director, Klitschko Management Group..
