A few days ago I revealed that former IBF light-welterweight champion Lovemore Ndou had offered to provide the opposition for former champ Ricky Hatton should the rumours be true that he is to fight again.

Hatton, who has not fought since being knocked out inside two rounds by Manny Pacquiao in May 2005, is expected to announce a return to the ring in November and Ndou believes he should be the man Hatton faces upon his return.

Speaking exclusively to SecondsOut the 41 year old Ndou said: “I hear Ricky Hatton is planning a comeback and would like him to know that I’m ready, willing and available to take him on. Hatton and I have some unfinished business as far as I’m concerned.

“In 2007 he chose to relinquish the IBF title instead of facing+ me. A year later I fought on the same card as him when I took on Paul Malignaggi in a rematch. Anyone that saw that fight knows that I clearly beat Malignaggi but for the politics involved in boxing he was given a decision win. At the time I fought Malignaggi contracts had already been signed for Malignaggi and Hatton to meet in their next fights. This was a fight that was worth millions of dollars so there was no way those in power were gonna let me jeopardise that. Hence Malignaggi was awarded a points win in a fight I clearly won.

When high profile fighters come out of retirement it is common for active boxers to jump on the band wagon in a bid to cash in financially on the big name but Ndou’s motivation to face Hatton is different, he has revealed that any purse he gets to face Hatton will be donated to his favourite charity.

“As I have said in the past that I would happily fight Ricky Hatton for free I still stand by that,” insisted Ndou. “My entire purse from the fight would go towards orphans of the HIV AIDS epidemic in South Africa. After a 14 month layoff I have recently returned to boxing for a good cause. To raise money for the children of the world.

“My first comeback fight was on the 10th of August where I beat Gairy St. Clair and won the WBF world Welterweight title and the IBF Pan Pacific title. I gave my entire purse from that fight to the Dulwich Hill Youth Centre. I will be fighting again on the seventh of September in Melbourne in a non title fight against Rivan Cessaire. My entire purse will again go towards the Youth Centre.

Ndou added: “ I intend to travel around the world and fight but donate my entire purses towards charities involving children. I know what it’s like to have nothing. And I know what having nothing can lead to. CRIME, CRIME and CRIME. I know I can’t save the world but I can help a few kids out there. For me to be where I am today I have had other people help me along the way. And I would like to do the same and help others.

“I really don’t need to be fighting anymore. I have already achieved more than I ever dreamt of achieving as far as boxing is concerned. But I love the sport so much and I feel I should continue doing what I love but at the same time giving back to community. The truth is when I fought Saul Alvarez and Kell Brook I had already lost interest in the sport. I had no reason to fight. I just couldn’t get motivated. I’m a qualified lawyer with University Degrees in Law, Communications and Psychology. And a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies. I’m probably the most educated world champion boxer there had ever been. Those two fights were more of a holiday trip for me. On my best and with a good cause there is no way Kell Brook would have beaten me. The same goes for Canelo. I believe to be successful in every goal you set in life you need to have a good valid reason behind your goal. My goal this time is to serve children of the world. I believe that is a good valid reason and hence I’m gonna excel as I now I have a good reason to stay motivated.

“I know for a fact Ricky Hatton is a good man who does a lot for the community. So I’m saying Ricky let’s join forces and continue to fight this good fight for the children of the world. Let’s fight each other. You don’t have to donate your entire purse or any of it to any charities but I will donate mine to the orphans of AIDS. I will continue to fight this good fight even after I have retired from boxing. I intend to be involved in active politics in South Africa once I retire from boxing.

“My main target will be education. I wanna see the children of South Africa educated. I want to be remembered as the man who fought for the education of South Africa. I’m a true believer that education is important. Knowledge is power. Just like a very wise man Aristotle once said, “Education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity.” I believe every word of that quote. In fact to prove my belief in education I also intend to pursue the bachelor of medicine and surgery degree in the near future. Someday I wanna be called Doctor NDOU, if not the President of South Africa.”
