Gary Sykes retained his English super featherweight title on the Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz undercard in Sheffield on Saturday night with a unanimous 10 round points win over Jon Kays.
All the rounds were close but Sykes always seemed to have his nose in front of a close and fast paced bout.
The judges scorecards read 97-94;98-94 and 98-93 for Syke. Sykes improves to 24-3, Kays falls to 16-3-1.
Haroon Khan, the younger brother of the evening’s headliner Amir Khan, made a successful professional debut by out-pointing Bret Fido over four rounds. The scores were 40-37.
In a middleweight bout Olympic Bronze medalist Anthony Agogo looked good in stopping Telford’s Kieron Gray after 2.00 of the second round. After a slow start Agogo opened up, a big right hook sent Gray crashing to the canvas.
