Michael Katsidis
Sydney, AUSTRALIA – Former 2 x WBO lightweight world champion, Michael Katsidis has called time on a truly wonderful boxing career. The 32 year old from Toowoomba, Queensland was set to resurrect his career in Australia just a week away headlining a fight card in Melbourne up against tough Filipino, Weng Haya.

Rumor has it that Katsidis has retired on medical advice and plans to reveal all the particulars on the night on February 21st as a guest speaker inside the ring at the Melbourne Pavilion on the card he was supposed to be headlining.

The Aussie warrior will be best know for his intense wars with Juan Manuel Marquez(who he floored in Round 3), Graham Earl, Robert Guerrero, Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz. None of Katisidis fights were boring, his comparisons to the late Arturo Gatti, are not only well deserved, but well founded as well. His fan base not only in Australia, but the US and UK were massive for this very reason.

In a time when fighters pick and choose opponents for reasons other than to win championship belts, Katsidis tended to defy the trend taking on anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Whatever Katsidis does with his life moving forward, I am sure not only his fans, but all boxing fans around the world wish him all the very best in retirement. Boxing won’t be the same without him. --
