Carlos Quintana: "Paul Williams is not Superman"

The odds are stacked against Carlos Quintana (24-1, 19KOs). Regardless, the odds don't seem to bother him. He tells Primera Hora that he doesn't think WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (33-0, 24KOs) is invincible. At the same time, he doesn't kid himself either. He knows the fight will be very difficult. Quintana challenges Williams on Feb. 9 in California. HBO will televise the fight.

"Williams is left-handed and that in itself is difficult. He throws a lot of punches, which complicates things even more. But,
he is not Superman and I am not afraid," Quintana said. "I do well against bigger fighters."

Quintana is looking to fix the mistakes his made in only loss, where he was stopped by Miguel Cotto in five rounds. He claims to the paper that pre-fight issues with making weight, among other things, contributed to the loss. He's walking around at 155, only eight-pounds above the welterweight limit.

"We made some mistakes in the fight and we have corrected them. I am not sacrificing as much to make the weight after I hired a nutritionist. I feel a lot better for this fight with Williams. I'm eating eight times a day and I am near the weight", Quintana said.

He wants to avenge the loss to Cotto by upsetting Williams. He's training with left-handed fighters who are throwing high volumes of punches to prepare him for the aggressive, fast-paced style of the champion.

"I was not born to lose. I want to be champion. This is my opportunity to claim the title. It is not going to be easy because Williams is always in excellent condition and one must prepare to fight him for twelve-rounds. But, I am training with left-handed fighters who throw a lot of punches and I will be ready for him."
