Kermit Cintron vs Antonio Margarito II is Official - Boxing
By Gabriel Montoya (Feb 13, 2008) Doghouse Boxing
Moments ago, Doghouseboxing.com’s Gabriel Montoya was informed by Top Rank that the fight between Antonio Margarito and IBF welterweight title holder Kermit Cintron is official. There had been speculation that Margarito might instead fight newly crowned WBO welterweight titleholder Carlos Quintana. Margarito is the mandatory challenger to Quintana.
With Margarito moving forward to fight Cintron, Shane Mosley will be elevated to the number one challenger spot. Mosley is in talks with Zab Judah for a late April/early May bout.
The HBO World Championship Boxing event will be held on April 12 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City as the co-feature to WBA welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto vs. Contender Alum Alphonso Gomez. The winner of Margarito/Cintron will get a shot at unifying with Cotto should he defend successfully against Gomez. Tickets go on sale Friday.
A formal announcement will be made on February 26 in New York City.
