During the Taylor vs Pavlik II promotion, I had a chance to speak with Lou DiBella on his plans for welterweight contender, Andre Berto. DiBella answered rumors of a three-fight contract Berto had apparently signed with HBO which included a title shot.

“HBO has made a commitment to show Andre two more times. Me as a promoter, I think a title fight could be coming by the end of the year. I was very happy with how he looked against [Michael Trabant] but I think his
defense needs a little bit of work. He’s only 23 years old. A little head movement, more feinting. He’s a superb athlete and I don’t see any reason to rush with him. But I would say two fights down the line, he could be ready for the title fight.”

In the weeks ahead, look for on Doghouse Boxing continued coverage on the hottest division in sports with interviews with Antonio Margarito, Zab Judah, Andre Berto, and Kermit Cintron.
