Andre Ward injury update

Last night on Leave-it-in-the-ring.com radio as well as on his twitter,
WBA and WBC super-middleweight champion Andre Ward said that he had
broken his left hand coming into his fight with Carl Froch. Ward tweeted
a photo of the injured hand earlier in the week but had just received
the news of his injury an hour before arriving on the show.
“I just got the news probably an hour ago,” said Ward who joined the
show as a guest for a live thirty minute interview Thursday night. “To
recap, one of my last sparring sessions was Thursday. I hit the hand. I
banged it up. The next day, I went and got an X-Ray. It didn’t show
anything. And I just felt like something was wrong. They said to keep
icing and take anti-inflammatories and we did that the whole week. I
would go to bed with ice packs on. In between each session I would put
ice packs on my hand. I would tape them on my hand. We didn’t know to
what extent we just thought it was bruised. But the pain continued to
stay with us all the way up to the day of the fight. Stitch Duran came
to my room before the fight and showed me what kind of wrap he was going
to put on. I put a ten ounce glove on just to test it out and I still
felt it, man. So I knew that it was inevitable that I was going to feel
some pain that night. I had to go with it and we went with it and
everything was fine until the sixth round. I hit Froch with a hook and
it was kind of downhill from there in terms of the pain but we got
through it. I went and got an MRI today. The MRI showed multiple
fractures in I think it is the third and fifth metacarpal. So they put a
hard cast on it and in a couple weeks I will be able to get it off and
start rehab.”
Ward did not say who would be next but said he would not move to light heavyweight just yet.
