Coming up this Saturday night at the Buffalo Run Casino in Mami, OK, the undefeated heavyweight prospect Trey Lippe-Morrison 6-0 (6 KO’s) looks to keep his record intact as he takes on Richard Dawson 5-2-2 (3 KO’s) in a scheduled six round clash. In this exclusive interview, we get the thoughts from Trey as he speaks out on his upcoming fight, his father, the late Tommy Morrison, his career and more, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr. First off thank you for stepping into the Doghouse. Give the readers your thoughts on your upcoming fight this Saturday night.

Trey Lippe-Morrison
He has the best record out of al the guys I have fought. he has fought multiple six round fights, this one is my first. So far he is supposed to be my toughest opponent. Out of all my fights I am taking this one the most serious. I am ready for this fight, I hate the build up, I wish I could skip to the fight and make it happen.

BH Your first fight against Chris Renty, you did everything opposite your team wanted you to do. You were on the canvas in the first round. You did get it together and in. Your thoughts on that entire fight and coming off the canvas to earn the win.

TLM
I did have a lot on my shoulders going into that fight. Not very many people’s debut is a house packed show as mine was. I went in there and I was a little nervous. I went in there and he hit me with a good shot and knocked me down. When I got up, what ran though my head was, thst was it. It didn’t hurt, I took his best shot and after that I was unfearful. I didn’t really box in that fight, I have transformed since that fight, I am a different guy.

BH Looking at yourself, being brutally honest, what do you feel are your greatest accolades as a fighter, and which departments do you feel you need to work on to become a more rounded fighter?

TLM
I think I need to grow in every aspect of boxing. I have no amateur background. But, the one thing I do is that I have a big heart, and I learn very fast. I have had to learn fast. My skill set, I do think I need to work on everything.

BH From here on out you are going to hear or be asked about your Dad, Tommy Morrison. Reporters are going to bring up your Dad. Do you feel honored to carry on your Dad’s legacy, as well as a weight on your shoulders. Because you will always unfairly be measuring you up to your Dad.

TLM
Yes, I feel that way. I am trying to be my own fighter, I do have a weight on my shoulders for my Dad being who he was. People do compare me to him, I read it all the time. I shouldn’t have. Especially after my first fight, and my first fight didn’t look so good. People cannot, or should not compare me to how I started to how he ended. of course I do not look as good as he did, but I am building up to it. I am doing the best I can. Him being who he was drives me to hopefully fill his shoes and be as good or better than he was if that was possible.

BH I read somewhere that your mother wanted to shield you from the boxing life, the lifestyle you Dad had in the spotlight. So I have to ask, what are her thoughts on your fighting pro now in your Dad’s footsteps?

TLM
She was not for it at first, she was trying to protect me, because boxing can be dirty. It is not something a mother wants to see. There will be a time where a fighter goes to fight and it does not go his way. It will be hard on any mother. Football was my sport, but that was cut short. I feel this is God’s gift to me or a second chance. I have taken the opportunity and I doing what I can with it.

BH As far a being a young prospect, what do you feel separates you from the other prospects in the heavyweight division?

TLM
I don't consider myself any different than any other heavyweight out there giving it there best shot. I am just like them, I am doing all that I can just like they are. I do have my Dad’s name going for me. But that doesn't make me any different than them.

BH When that bell rings this Saturday night, what can the fight fan expect from you?

TLM
They can expect me to be the best boxer I can be. I am not going to fight the way they want me too, they want me to go out there and just knock the dude out. Except for my first fight, I have never went out there and just tried to knock a guy out. it just comes. I have to be patient and throw my punches. I am going to do my best and hope they enjoy it.

BH Anything in closing?

TLM
I just want to thank everybody for their support. I am going to fight the best I can, and be the best I can be.
