After months of preparation, former champion Austin Trout 28-2 (15 KO’s) was raring and ready to take on Anthony Mundine 47-6 (27 KO’s) this Saturday night for the WBC Silver super welterweight title. But, due to what has been described as a perforated eardrum, Mundine pulled out of the upcoming clash, leaving Team Trout searching for a replacement. In this exclusive interview, we get Trout’s thoughts on the postponement of his bout, his opinion on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fiasco, Alvarez vs. Kirkland, and more, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.
It was recently announced that Anthony Mundine pulled out of the fight with you because of what has been reported at an ear condition. Your thoughts on the cancellation.

Austin Trout
Yes, the fight against Anthony Mundine has been postponed. He is going to stay here in America until it heals, so I hope we can get to fighting as soon as possible. But, I still want to fight, I have been training hard since February for this fight and dang it, I want to fight.

BH
Have there been any other names thrown in the mix to salvage this fight?

AT
There have been some names, my manager is working hard to get somebody to fill in. It is a mater of getting their medical’s done and passed before fight night. I am very hopeful and still very positive that a fight will happen this Saturday. I am still working out and staying ready.

BH
You stated that you have been training for Mundine since February. So, you have been training for his style. Now, with a replacement, it is safe to say he will be different stylistically. Do you feel you could be ill prepared for a different style of fighter?

AT
Stylistically it is not good, but, I have been doing this for while, so if I cannot adjust in the ring then I need to reconsider a career change. We will see what happens. As far as I’m concerned, I am in good shape, so if styles do not match up, hopefully my strength and will to win will get me through this.

BH
Of course we had the big fight this past weekend. Mayweather won unanimously over Pacquiao. Now, Manny is claiming he had a bum shoulder coming into the fight. Your thoughts on that. Do you feel it is legit, or is Pacquiao just being a sore loser?

AT
Whether it is legit or not, that is not the reason why he lost. If his shoulder was hurt before the fight, then he should not have taken the fight. He went in there thinking he could win, so he should take the loss like a man, regardless if his shoulder is hurt or not. I do not know what to believe. Also, to go even further, I am not sure this is even Manny Pacquiao really saying all these things. Yes, it is coming out of his mouth. But, that post fight interview, where he said he thought he won the fight, sounded to me like Bob Arum had his hand up Manny’s butt and was doing the sock puppet trick. We know Bob Arum is not going to last without Manny Pacquiao. A rematch is the only thing that will keep Top Rank and Arum going and matching what Al Haymon is doing. I think Bob Arum is telling Manny what to say.

BH
Your thoughts on the upcoming Alvarez/Kirkland fight?

AT
I love this match-up, I think it is going to be a great fight. It is going to be a great fight while it lasts, somebody is going to touch the canvas. Maybe both a few times. It is going to be fireworks regardless of who comes out on top.

BH
Anything in closing?

AT
I am working hard to get back to where I think I belong. Saturday, I pray that I am able to fight. I want that world title. Mundine and Trout will happen down the road, and I will be sharper for that fight. Stick around, because I am not going anywhere.
