Every fighter who steps in the ring know that on any given night, they could win or lose, so they train day after day their body and mind to prepare for battle, and hope that at the end of the night, their hand will be the one raised in victory. We all know the dangers of the sport, the brutality that comes with two men hitting one another until one goes down, or till the end of the bell. And although fight fans love to see the bumps, bruises and bloodshed that come with the throw downs, I would say the majority of the fight fans do not wish harm on neither of the two, which would result in permanent damage.

Injuries come with the territory, and we witness a fighter not only fighting in the ring, but at times, afterwards, due to a severe injury, fighting for their lives.

This past Saturday night, Puerto Rican born boxer, Prichard Colon 16-1 (13 KO’s) stepped in the ring against Terrel Williams 15-0 (12 KO’s) as a hot undefeated prospect, left the ring with the first blemish of his young career, and is now fighting for his life in intensive care, after having emergency surgery for bleeding on the brain.

The two undefeated fighters waged heated war against one another at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, VA, both fighters had their moments of good boxing, and flagrant fouls. Colon was on the canvas twice in the bout, and was deducted two points for a low blow, his foe Williams, was no stranger to foul play as he was deducted one point for rabbit punching. It has been reported that Colon had complained to his corner in the seventh round about dizziness, and after his corner removed his gloves in between rounds nine and ten, Colon was disqualified. After the bout in the locker room, Colon got dizzy, vomited and fainted.

The paramedics worked on Pritchard and rushed him to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, where the twenty-three year old prospect underwent emergency surgery for bleeding on the brain.

As of now, Colon is a coma and is listed as in critical condition. The family has requested that all though we respect their privacy, they also ask for prayers for a full recovery.

I have had the pleasure of interviewing Pritchard, and he was an extremely pleasant young man to speak too. I hate that the fight itself was marred with dirty tactics from both fighters, it happens at times in the heat of battle. I would imagine that although they were foes in the ring, this would be weighing heavy on Terrel’s mind. For now, most importantly, regardless of what religion, if any you may follow, we all should send our positive thoughts, vibes and prayers in the direction of Pritchard Colon, as he fights the toughest fight of his life. The gang here at Doghouse Boxing send our thoughts your way, and myself, I pray in Jesus name that His will be done in this situation.
