Bachelors Degree in Life Science, had twenty fight amateur career that
earned him a Bronze Medal at the National Colligate Boxing Association
(NCBA) tournament. The twenty-six year old, 6‘4“ is raring and ready to
make his splash on the middleweight division as he takes the plunge from
the amateurs to the pros. In this exclusive interview, Williams speaks
on on his debut, career and more, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.
Tonight is your debut, give the readers your thoughts on taking that plunge.
AJ Williams
I feel pretty good going into this fight, I have been training really
hard. My cardio is up, I have been sparring, working on my skills and
everything. This has been a fun transition, I think it is more of a mind
thing that anything. Right after my last amateur fight, I felt a change
in my style. I feel ready, my team has been doing well and working
hard, we are doing our best to make sure we are successful this weekend.
BH
You speak on the transition from the amateurs to the pros, tonight you
will be fighting with no head gear, smaller gloves, how do you feel you
will react to getting punched without the head gear and such?
AJ
I feel like I will be ok with it, I have done a little sparring without
the head gear, it was not bad. I feel like I have a pretty good chin, so
I will not try to take punches on purpose, but I think I will be ok.
BH
Not to speak to prematurely, but, what do you think you will bring to the middleweight division as a pro?
AJ
I feel like I bring a new type of flavor, I am not a hard fighter who
came up from rough beginnings, you can still be successful in the ring
without having that rough and tough background.
BH
I have to ask this, you have a college degree, you could have a very
well salary with another career. So, why choose a job that has you
taking punches for a living?
AJ
I like it, I have always had a passion for sports, I did all those
things in getting a degree and a good job, just so I could branch out
and do other things that I wanted. Boxing is something is something that
I love. But, if I have to walk away from boxing, I will be ok.
BH
What can the fight fans expect from you tonight?
AJ
A good show, I am not too flashy, but I am a fun fighter, I like to
entertain. I can keep a high volume of punches, they should expect a
good exciting match.
BH
Anything in closing?
AJ
Thank you for your support, and come out tonight and have a good time.
