Doghouse Boxing Predictions - Kelly Pavlik vs Bernard Hopkins
Compiled By Benny Henderson Jr., DoghouseBoxing (Oct 18, 2008) DoghouseBoxing.com
Tonight, from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, only on HBO PPV 9PM ET/6PM PT, undefeated Kelly Pavlik 34-0 (30) takes on the old school warrior and future hall of famer Bernard Hopkins 48-5-1 (32) in a twelve round light heavyweight battle.

Hopkins, who honestly needs no introduction, has been a force to be reckoned with for twenty-years in the bang for your buck sport. Pavlik, who burst on to the scene in 2007 with his seventh round stoppage of
Hopkins conqueror Jermain Taylor, has proven to be a heavy handed combatant and a difficult out for anyone in the middleweight division.

Can Pavlik, who has knocked out thirty of his thirty-four opponents, stop the forty-three year old Hopkins, or will B-Hop, who has never been stopped in his career, throw a money wrench in Pavlik’s plans of world domination?

Doghouse Decides!

Debbie Duran:
Ugh. I really wish I could be enthusiastic about this fight. Kelly Pavlik is a fun guy to watch, in my opinion, but ANYONE can look bad against "The Executioner". Bernard Hopkins hasn’t looked exciting in years. Hmm, I’d say the most exciting "B-Hop" has looked since beating Felix Trinidad has been…well, the Trinidad fight and that was seven years ago (I don’t count the way the De La Hoya fight ended because it came off as cheap looking!). Pavlik has to make that freakish reach work to affect Hopkins’ game but Bernard’s going to operate by bringing "The Ghost" inside. He’ll maul Pavlik in close quarters and cheap shot him out of the ref’s range of vision and just negate Kelly’s power. It sucks, I know. Although I really do appreciate Hopkins’ skill and the way he’s stretched out his career at his relatively advanced age, wouldn’t it be cool to see Kelly Pavlik score the knockout? It’d be even better to go with Pavlik’s trainer Jack Loew’s suggestion to have this as a world middleweight championship defense but, sometimes, we can’t all have what we want. It’s a siren’s lure for Hopkins and I don’t want to say this but, if he gets his way, Hopkins will execute Pavlik’s zero and not by KO. He’ll get a calculating-but-boring split decision win at best. I can even see a draw but, unfortunately, Kelly Pavlik won’t get the win.
