Klitschko batters Brewster into submission

In front of a packed house at the Koln Arena in Cologne, Germany, televised on HBO, the IBF/IBO heavyweight title holder Wladimir Klitschko 49-3 (44 KO’s) boxed, battered and beat Lamon Brewster 33-4 (29 KO’s) in a six round lop sided heavyweight showdown, successfully defending his heavyweight hardware as well as avenging the last loss on his professional resume.

Klitschko, who lost his WBO strap to Brewster a tad over three years ago via fifth round TKO, like before had total control
of this bout, the only difference, the gas tank did not run out in this go around.

As the fight began both boxers went to the center of the ring with Brewster trying to rekindle the pressure he posed in their first meeting, but was met by a continuous Klitschko jab that kept Brewster at bay. Klitschko kept distancing himself with his established jab that pecked away at his foe, beating and battering Brewster unremittingly to the punch with pretty much everything the Ukrainian threw out.

Brewster, who fought cautiously, did take the punishing one-two’s Klitschko landed but couldn’t muster any kind of offense or effective attack. After six rounds of being beat to the punch and pretty much boxed, battered and bruised, Brewster’s trainer Buddy McGirt had seen enough of the punishment his fighter had taken and threw in the towel between rounds, giving Klitschko his seventh consecutive win since dropping to defeat to Brewster back in 2004. Brewster now drops back-to-back losses with this defeat.

After the fight a defeated yet humble Lamon Brewster told HBO commentator Larry Merchant Klitschko was the better man tonight, “I could not get past his jab,” explained Brewster, “He (Klitschko) was able to maintain his jab and I was not able to counter.”

When asked about his trainer throwing in the towel Brewster stated, “I will live to fight another day.” Brewster’s trainer, Buddy McGirt told Merchant, “He (Brewster) was not able to get off, why take a chance on his health.”

During the post fight interview the reigning champion Klitschko had with Merchant, a humble Brewster interrupted and told Klitschko that it was his night and that he deserved the win.

Klitschko, who now has successfully defended his IBF/IBO heavyweight strap three times was pleased with this win stating that tonight, “I could not lose.” And spoke on unification stating that he would not give up his belt.

It is back to the drawing board for Lamon and his team who should definitely take a look at the direction his career has taken, while Klitschko looks to continue his winning ways in hopes if unifying the titles.

Stay tuned to this crazy ride we call…the heavyweight division!
