Green batters Bonsante; McCline outpoints Smith
By Benny Henderson Jr. (July 22, 2006)
Last night at the Million Dollar Elm Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma televised on ESPN 2 FNF the undefeated super middleweight contender Allan Green 21-0 (15 KO’s) handed out a dose of realism to the former “The Contender” participant Anthony Bonsante 26-8-3 (15 KO’s) in a five round all out assault on the Minnesotan.

The Tulsa native didn’t need the hometown edge coming out establishing his dominance in the first round landing jab after jab keeping Bonsante at bay for the opener. The second round Green continued his labor of leather landing an unyielding left hook to drop Bonsante in a delayed reaction, which left the clinch happy Bonsante tying up to survive the round.

The third and fourth round Green sustained his savage stance outworking, out landing and out classing a battered and bloodied Bonsante picking away at will and putting a stop to the malicious attack in the fifth round dropping Bonsante with what was the key punch of the night, a left hook which had Bonsante down and out and hesitating to answer the referee Gerald Ritter who called a halt to the brutality at 2:37 in the fifth round, giving the rising star Allan Green his fourth straight knock out victory.

Green took care of business in a brutal display of skill and power over Bonsante, Anthony drops his fourth straight loss in a row while the rising star in Green is projected to fight former champion Jeff lacy in October.

In what was a superb showing in the opening fight of the night the former heavyweight contender Jameel McCline 38-6-3 (23 KO’s) etches his way a bit closer up to the top of the crop with a crucial tenth round unanimous decision victory over the Arkansan Terry Smith 28-2-1 (18 KO’s).

The 6’6” giant came out firing off on the outside beating Smith to the punch countering Smith’s offense. McCline kept the jab pumping as the two went back to battle in the second round; the two shared their moments throughout the fight ending a lot of the rounds in a fury of fists. McCline who had been criticized for his lack of stamina stayed strong to finish up the fight and in the end earned the hard earned W and the NABO Heavyweight title as well with the scores of 94-97, 93-97 and 92-98. This bout gives McCline his sixth straight win in less than an eighth month period in his ascend back up the heavyweight ladder.

The swing bout of the night showcased the crowd favorite Carson Jones 12-2-1 (7 KO’s) rolling over a win against the outclassed Arkansas native Justin Flanagan 4-1 (4 KO’s) in a four round super middleweight bout.

The overmatched Flanagan gave a wholehearted effort against the much skilled and showboating Jones, but ate more leather than should have been allowed throughout the night. Being dropped in the opening round and then taking more punishment throughout the fight Flanagan dropped his first bout by losing out by the scores of 35-40, 34-40 and 34-40 in what was a night for Jones showcase his talents, who now wins his fourth straight bout.
