In this exclusive interview, we get the thoughts from Mayfield on his upcoming bout, his career and more, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.: How excited are you about fighting on HBO for the first time?

Karim Mayfield:
It’s been a long time coming and a dream come true for me as I’ve always envisioned fighting on HBO.  I’ve earned this opportunity by taking on tough fights and now it’s my time to let the world know what I’m all about.

Benny:  What can you tell us about your opponent Mauricio Herrera?

Karim:
He’s a very tough fighter who likes to go to war.  He’s never been down and I’m looking to change that when we step in the ring.  My goal is to knock him out, but I’m prepared to go the distance if I have too.

Benny:  This will be back to back fights where you will be traveling to the East Coast to take on your opponent.  What’s it like fighting out there so far away from San Francisco where you are from?

Karim:
I’m used to fighting outside of my hometown.  The East Coast has been good to me so far as you well know I had an impressive knockout in my last fight out there against Raymond Serrano.   I’m a warrior and I’ll fight anywhere.

Benny:  You’ve recently united with Gary Shaw along with your promoter Prize Fight.  What has that been like?

Karim:
Gary Shaw and Prize fight are doing a great job working together.  As you can see I’m fighting on HBO and I couldn’t be happier with the way my career is heading.

Benny:  When do you feel you’ll be ready for a world title shot?

Karim:
After I win this fight, I’ll be ready to take on anyone in the Jr. Welterweight division.  All the current champions are beatable.

Benny:   Are there any fighters you’re looking to challenge if you are to win this fight”

Karim:
I would love to mix it up with Brandon Rios or Danny Garcia.  Both those guys are exciting fighters that I feel I can beat.  I’ll fight whoever they put in front of me.

Benny:  Any last words you want to send to your fans

Karim:
I want to thank my team for all their hard work.  I also want to thank my fans who’ve supported me from the beginning.  On October 27th everyone around the world will know what I’m all about because I’m coming hard against Herrera.  Everyone can follow me on twitter @karimmayfield1.  Thank you Benny.
