It
was supposed to be a victorious comeback, for the British superstar,
and former two-time world champion Ricky Hatton 45-3 (32), but the once
beaten, one time world champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (34-1, 23 KOs), had
upset on his mind, in stepping in with the hard hitting hometown
favorite, not only derailing the comeback train of the Hit Man express,
but stopping the veteran on his turf, in knock out entertaining fashion.
Hatton,
who last seen action in May of 2009, losing via devastating knock out
by superstar, Manny Pacquiao, could of taken the easy road back to
success, with a tune up bout, but opted to do so in taking on a former
title holder, Ukraine born Vyacheslav Senchenko, whose only defeat came
from the WBA welterweight title holder, Paulie Malignaggi, this past
April.
As
the bell rang, Hatton portrayed himself as the Ricky Hatton of old,
with his aggressive style, pumping out power shots, all the while
stalking his prey. Senchenko, did utilize a solid jab, and a good defense in keeping Hatton at the end of his left hand. All
though Ricky seemed to win the very early rounds of the bout, the
lay-off seemingly had an impact as his movement was a bit stale, in
eating shots that he should have been able to defend against.
All
though Hatton was ahead on the score cards, Senchenko, landed a
devastating body shot that had Hatton cringing on the canvas, and being
counted out by referee Victor Loughlin. Senchenko not only put a serious
dent in the comeback of Ricky Hatton, as well as giving the Brit his
first loss in the UK, but, this loss could very well send Hatton back
into retirement.
So
for now, Hatton has a lot of decision making in what is next for his
career in boxing, as Vyacheslav Senchenko, looks to his future in what
has to be the biggest victory of his ten plus year career.
