INTERVIEW by Benny Henderson Jr (Oct 12, 2007) DoghouseBoxing (Photo © JD Crenshaw)
Coming up October 19th at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK, the super middleweight contender Allan Green 24-1 (17) returns to the ring to face the battle tested Sherwin Davis 18-5 (12) in a scheduled ten round 168-pound match-up. The Oklahoma native was on a twenty-three fight win streak when he went head to head against Edison Miranda this past March, a fight that was no doubt an explosive one. After twelve entertaining rounds, a fight that had both fighters on the floor, Green dropped his first bout unanimously.

Returning to the ring in July, Green came back with a bang disposing of Darrell Woods in one round. Days after his big win Green underwent major surgery removing 85% of his colon, which was causing his body much despair before, during and after the Miranda fight.

Now he’s back and claims to be better than ever and believes 2008 will be his year, and wants to end ’07 with a bang. Read on to see what Allan Green had to say on his upcoming bout and as well as who he wants to step in with in ‘08, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.: Hey Allan, first off I just want to say thank for taking the time out to speak to Doghouse Boxing.

Allan Green:
You know that Doghouse Boxing is my favorite site and that you can call me anytime man.

BH: Hey brother I appreciate that and it means a lot. You are fighting Sherwin Davis coming up October 19th; give the readers your thoughts on that match-up.

AG:
Sherwin Davis is a credible opponent, I am not going to sit here an act like he is a world beater but he can be a
problem if you let him be. I have been training very hard and in spectacular shape, and I will come out in spectacular fashion.

BH: In your last fight you just basically went out there and beat the living crap out of Darrel Woods, this guy was a very credible and tough opponent, and you just went out there and destroyed the guy. What statement do you feel that you made with that win?

AG:
There has been a lot of guys that he fought that could not get him out of there, I just wanted to go out there and prove that I could get a guy like that out of there. I have knocked out credible guys contenders and such, I wanted to knock out one of those cagey guys that have been hard to catch. I wanted to get in there and show that I could do that; I wanted to make a statement. Plus the following Monday after the fight I had to have surgery so I was not trying to be in the ring to long.

BH: You had surgery for what now?

AG:
A lot of people should know by now, my colon was paralyzed, that was the illness that plagued me in the Miranda fight, my colon was paralyzed so they had to remove 85% of it, it was a major surgery.

BH: I remember you and I talking about that before I just did not want to put that out there at first because it was such a personal matter. How are you felling now?

AG:
I feel 100% better. Medically I should not have been in the ring anyway, but I am fine now and feel great and I am ready to get down to business. So whoever wants it.

BH: For the ones that do not understand the extent of the sickness you had and the importance of your colon and the affect it has on the body, please explain. What were the symptoms and what were you feeling?

AG:
That was beyond sickness. I was holding about fifteen to sixteen extra pounds of weight, toxins and fluids in my body. Your colon is what absorbs water and it would not absorb water anymore, so I was always dehydrated and blacking out a lot. I had an overload of lead in my body because I could not release anything and clean my body out. The doctor told me had I not of taken care of myself the way I did, if I would of drank, smoke or did anything as such I would have been dead already.

BH: What did you think of the Pavlik vs. Taylor fight?

AG:
I think Jermain could have easily won the fight, I thought Pavlik was tailor made for him, but Jermain Taylor is indicate skill wise. Jermain Taylor is not a go-getter, he is fast and has talent but there are a lot of things he really needs to work on. His defense is his offense, all he knows to do is when people gets on him is to throw punches, but he does not throw punches to attack but to get people off of him. He has been fighting like that since the first Hopkins fight. He got Pavlik hurt and did not know how to finish him. He threw a lot of amateur punches. I think he was nervous, it was not the fact that Pavlik weathered the storm but because of Jermain’s inadequacies to finish Kelly Pavlik off, and when he couldn’t I think it bothered him mentally. Even a second-rate fighter would of ended Pavlik if they had him in that condition. I have the utmost respect for Kelly, he is not the most talented guy and he will admit that, but he is in tremendous shape and has tremendous determination and that is why I respect him.

BH: Would you like a…(Allan breaks into question)

AG:
I would love to fight Pavlik, I dream about that fight.

BH: I am going to ask the usually last two questions, if you could send out a message to your next opponent Sherwin Davis, what would you say?

AG:
Don’t read the papers too much and thinking that I am coming in half stepping, because I am better than I have ever been and you will see it.

BH: Anything you want to say to the division.

AG:
160-pounds to 168-pounds, the division is mine! In 2008 the division is mine.

Doghouse Boxing would like to thank Allan Green for his time and thoughts.
