Doghouse Boxing recently spoke with the young undefeated rising heavyweight star Travis Walker 25-0-1 (19 KO’s) who has his sites set on a possible match-up against the hard hitting “Nigerian Nightmare” Samuel Peter. A fight that the “Freight Train” dearly wants to prove to the fight world that he is willing and ready to become the next American heavyweight champion, and in his mind, all roads lead through Samuel Peter. Read on to see what Travis had to say on this match-up, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr: What has been going on in the world of Travis Walker?
Travis Walker: Well I have been trying to prepare for whenever we can get a good fight, I was training last month for a fight in Panama and when I got there my opponent did not even show up, so I am in shape.
BH: The last time you and I have spoke on record, you were about to fight Garcia, give us yours thoughts on that fight and since, what statement do you feel you have made?
TW: Actually I feel real good, the Estrada and Garcia were two big fights for myself, and I was able to prove to myself that I was able to beat those guys. I proved to myself that I was better than they’re level. These guys have been fighting for many years, longer than I have and I had the opportunity to prove that I progressed faster than those guys.
BH: We had spoke before and you said that you were ready to step up, ready to take it to the next level, I see your team wants to step in for Oleg Maskaev, give us your thoughts.
TW: I feel that that would be a great fight for me because of my size and the style that I have as a fighter, and the style
that Peter has as a fighter. I am hoping that he takes the fight thinking it is an easy win, just so I can show my stuff to the world that I am the kind of fighter that can be the best American heavyweight we have out there. I really believe that I am. This fight would prove that I am.
BH: If you could send out a message to Team Peter, what would you say?
TW: Samuel Peter has proven himself; now give me a chance to prove myself!
BH: Anything you want to add in closing?
TW: I am the best American heavyweight out there and I am trying to prove it. Samuel Peter needs to give me a chance to show it. My last TV fight was an ugly fight because I fought an amateur fighter, and anybody who fights him (Garcia) is going to look ugly because of his style. A lot of people stopped believing in me because this is a small guy that has a heart of a 7’7 guy. He was a little guy that just kept coming, but I came out with the W and that is what counts.
I would like to thank Travis Walker for choosing the Doghouse to spread the word!
