This week Watchdog's answers on Cotto vs Judah, more comments on De La Hoya/Mayweather, Paul Williams, Roy Jones Jr., Evander Holyfield and much more!

Who do you like in the Cotto/Judah match? And is the PPV worth getting? – Johnny

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
For 50 bucks, I don’t quite think this PPV is worth the money. Make sure you
check out my PPV Criteria column for more specifics. As for Cotto vs Judah, I like Cotto to win without much difficulty. Judah is too small, has too weak of a chin and has been out of the ring for over a year, unless you want to count that 1st round No Contest he had in April, which I don’t. Cotto by KO in 8.

What is the best undercard match on the Cotto/Judah card? – Riley

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
As far as fighters being evenly matched, Foreman vs Thompson. As far as entertainment goes, probably Soto vs Pacquiao. Soto should win without too much trouble, but it will probably be pretty fun while it lasts.

I watched Paul Williams and was impressed with his speed and power. Combine this with how tall he is and his reach, on July 14th I expect that a new force will emerge. The public will demand that Mayweather fight Williams – Howard

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
We’ll find out what Paul Williams is all about on July 14th. Forget the public demanding Williams vs Mayweather. And forget a Williams/Mayweather fight ever happening. Mayweather will probably only fight again if he can get De La Hoya in a rematch. The winner of Williams/Margarito should fight the winner of Cotto/Judah. That’s the fight the public should be demanding.

“If Oscar continues to throw the jab, he wins the fight easily”…..dude please….There’s a reason Oscar stopped throwing the jab, despite Roach begging him to keep throwing it.  Oscar didn’t want to taste Floyd’s counterpunching.  – Marvin

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
Did you watch the fight? Every time De La Hoya threw the jab, Mayweather did NOTHING. He had no answer for it and was dominated in those instances.

I would like to say, the fight Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather was good, but not GREAT.  I thought we were going to see another Ali vs. Frazier I, or Leonard vs. Hearns I.  The fight was said to be the fight of the century, but I beg to differ.  I cannot blame De La Hoya, but I do blame Mayweather for an un-fulfilled fight.  Remember in 24/7 Mayweather claimed he would annihilate Oscar.  Mayweather called him names, totally kept shouting un-necessary taunts at Oscar and even claimed he would fight Oscar Toe to Toe.  Mayweather totally lied, and ran and hit, like he normally does. – Terron

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
Sorry you fell for the hype. Read my PPV Criteria next time. The blandness of this fight was not at all unexpected.

I feel the same way everyone else has expressed about the disappointing bout. I feel Oscar had his chance and he blew it. I wouldn't want to see a rematch, I think Shane Mosley would give Mayweather a better fight. – Robert - Tucson, Arizona

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
Mosley might give Mayweather a good fight, but honestly, I think I’d rather Mayweather just hold true to his word and retire and let the guys who actually want to fight each other get the spotlight for a change.

Jermain Taylor needs to stop fighting 154 pounders and start giving the legit 160 pound fighters a chance at his title if he wants to build a fan base.  – Eli - So. Cal

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
I think everyone agrees with you on this. Let’s see if he has what it takes to step into the ring with a big, aggressive hard hitting fighter like Kelly Pavlik. Pavlik is a long way from being a Jr Middleweight, so I question whether Taylor will actually take the fight. We’ll see.

Do you think Evander has a shot at winning the heavyweight championship at the age of 44? – Dave

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
With as fat, out of shape and pathetic as the current heavyweight division is…sure, why not?

Just recently, on a reputable survey of the most popular ALL time Philippian "GREATS", Flash Elorde (whom I remember very well) came in at #1, and Manny P no higher than #6. Is this an indication of their displeasure at his interfering with his boxing progress to dabble in politics, or a TRUE measure of their opinion of his comparative greatness?? – Edgar

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
Regardless of where Manny Pacquiao ranks on any surveys or whether he dabbles in politics or not, he is completely and totally beloved in the Philippines.

Who do you think would be a good fighter for Roy Jones Jr to fight next if he fights again – Tyler

THE WATCHDOG’S RESPONSE:
If he insists on continuing to fight and wants to remain among the living, I would say the local postal worker or plumber would be a safe way to go. Nothing personal against Roy Jones Jr, I just think he is shot and can get seriously hurt or even killed against a really good fighter at this stage of the game. I think it’s best for him to retire. He doesn’t have it anymore.

THE WATCHDOG’S NOTES

Don’t let the focus on Saturday’s Cotto/Judah card make you forget about the interesting bout on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights. Herman Ngoudjo vs Randall Bailey. Last we saw Ngoudjo he was giving Jose Luis Castillo all he could handle on HBO. This fight will go a long way in letting us know if Castillo is really on his last legs, or if he was just in there with a really good fighter. If Ngoudjo is the goods, he’ll beat Bailey and Castillo/Hatton is more likely to be a good one. If he can’t get past Bailey, it may be an indication that Castillo will be in some trouble against Hatton.

Is the boxing summer dry? I look through the current tentative schedule for June, July and August and there are very few fights that excite me. I’m looking forward to seeing Hatton/Castillo on June 23rd. I love the July 14th Welterweight Triple-Header on HBO and of course anyone who is a real boxing fan is looking forward to the Rafael Marquez/Israel Vazquez rematch on Showtime in August. But really, nothing else I see on the horizon for boxing this summer has me very interested. Am I alone? What fights are you looking forward to seeing this summer?
