There’s “No Doubt” Trout’s Looking To Stand Out Against Rodriguez

Present
undefeated WBA Junior Middleweight Champion Austin “No Doubt”
Trout 24-0 (14) will be facing off against challenger Delvin “El
Peligro” Rodriguez 26-5-3 (14) on the undercard of the IBO
Cruiserweight title contest between Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver
29-6 (20) and unbeaten Nigerian Lateef “Power” Kayode 18-0 (14).
Ronald “Winky” Wright’s 51-5-1 (25) contest versus Peter “Kid
Chocolate” Quillin 26-0 (20) will also be featured on the card
scheduled for June 2nd.
This is a big step up in class for Trout whose most memorable victory
came for him when he defeated the older brother of Mexican boxing
phenomenon Saul “Canelo” Alvarez 40-0-1 (29), Rigoberto “El
Espanol” Alvarez 27-4 (20) last year in Guadalajara, Jalisco,
Mexico. Since silencing the elder Alvarez, Trout has been challenged
in finding quality contenders to fill his dance card. Introduce
Rodriguez, a genuine top ten fighter in the Junior Middleweight
division who sits at around 9th place behind Trout at 8th in terms of ranking, with Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. 43-0 (26)
still king of the weight class.
Trout
understands the significance of his upcoming fight with Rodriguez and
what it means to him in terms of staying afloat in one of the deepest
divisions in boxing. With big names like Alvarez, Williams, Mundine
among his ranks, Austin Trout has said of the matchup that, “If I
beat the hell out of Delvin, the other guys might not want to fight
me. I do plan on beating Delvin decisively and getting the public to
clamor for Trout vs. Cotto or Trout vs. Canelo.” A potential
slugfest against Miguel “Junito” Cotto 37-3 (30), who just lost
to Mayweather Jr. a few weeks ago, could propel Trout’s
marketability and star power to a whole new level, as boxing often
counts more on you being the guy who beat the guy. Trout still has to
get past Delvin Rodriguez first, a Connecticut boxer who is
definitely no slouch and is known to be a true ring warrior.
Rodriguez has refused to take the easy road during his career, as
he’s taken on the toughest of opponents in both the Welterweight
and Junior Middleweight divisions and shunned the tomato cans and
tune ups that some fighters pad their records with.
This
being said, Austin Trout is well aware of the potential threat that
Delvin Rodriguez poses to him in the ring and has been training for
victory. Trout’s outlook is positive and he says of his exercise
regimen, “Training is going good. I’m more excited than I’ve
ever been.” With a renewed sense of vigor and focus, Austin Trout
appears more than equipped to handle diversity and adjust within the
squared circle against a determined and driven Rodriguez. Trout is
conscious of Rodriguez as “a warrior” and he understands that he
“brings a hard fight for 12 rounds.” A spot on workhorse in the
ring and excellent counter puncher, Delvin Rodriguez banged it out
with fellow Junior Middleweight boxer Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak
29-2-1 (19) last December for the then vacant IBA Intercontinental
Light Middleweight title in a classic performance by both fighters
that was deemed the “Fight Of The Year.”
As
a career defining fight at this pinnacle of contest, Trout versus
Rodriguez is looking to be the determining factor in the next step
for either man in terms of who is next given the conclusion. Should
Austin Trout beat Delvin Rodriguez he must do it with certainty. He
will need to match Delvin’s elevated fight tempo while establishing
fluid combinations combined with effective footwork. Trout will be in
for probably the toughest fight of his career to date, a fact that he
is fully aware of. “There’s no way I can look past a fighter like
Delvin. This is the toughest fight of my life,” said “No Doubt”
during the recent conference call which highlighted several fighters
participating on the “Four Warned” card. Rodriguez doesn’t plan
on losing though, and with both fighters having a certain level of
respect for one another it’s hard to forecast a victor. “Danger”
is confident in his abilities and feels, “This fight is important
to me and I’m excited about it. I don’t want to go backwards and
I don’t want to go sideways – I want to go forward.” A boxer
with a good track record and comfort zone when facing left handed
fighters, Delvin Rodriguez will be constantly coming forward towards
southpaw Austin Trout on June 2nd.
There
is no give in either pugilist prior to their head to head collision,
as their clash will be as entertaining as it is revealing. One thing
is concrete. Trout will want to leave “No Doubt” in the eyes of
the judges as he faces the imminent “Peligro” when faced with the
onslaught that Rodriguez will bring.
