Delusions Of Grandeur - Bradley Given Win Over Pacquiao

Boxing allowed it’s ugliest of colors to resurface once more this
Saturday and mar the virtual landscape of the sport when Timothy “Desert
Storm” Bradley 29-0 (12) was given the win over Manny “Pac Man”
Pacquiao 54-4-2 (38) for the WBO Welterweight title at the MGM (not-so)
Grand in Lost Wages, Nevada by split decision in an affair that was
laughable and pathetic all in the same instance. Both men worked oddly
for victory as the fight itself was anticlimactic with the exception of
the few solid left hands that Pacquiao dropped in the opening rounds.
Other than that it was a lackluster fight that culminated with a bizarre
decision handed over to a wanting but undeserving new Champion. Whereas
Bradley had all the desire in the world for victory coming into this
fight, once he tasted Pacquiao’s power his focus changed and he appeared
to be all but removed from the foray. Not that there was much of one
honestly.
Robberies have unfortunately been an all too familiar
factor when it comes to boxing and where it has always been headed.
Several fighters have been robbed in the past with no justice or accord
to fix or justify the wrongdoing they’ve experienced during their
careers. A perfect example is Light Welterweight fan favorite and road
warrior Emanuel Augustus 38-34-6 (20), a boxer who has always dazzled
fans with his unorthodox style in the ring and determination. Augustus
could be the poster child for being robbed in boxing, a fighter who
seems to never be able to catch a break even when he’s clearly won a
fight. Pacquiao may want to take a page from Augustus’ playbook and just
roll with the punches on this one, especially the ones that never hit
him on Saturday night.
The reasoning for boxing’s latest debacle
is obviously to generate the hype of a rematch. The rematch no doubt
would also be another drawn out PPV event so that Top Rank can rake in
more cash over a fight that will definitely be that much more of a
snooze fest than their first meeting. The mere audacity of not only the
judges but for boxing in general to allow such a travesty only shows
that cash truly is king and forgiveness sometimes comes at a heavy
price, particularly when the loser of a showdown is most certainly the
winner.
No one should want to see a rematch between Pacquiao and
Bradley at this point and if they do then they need their head examined.
With so many of these garbage type decisions occurring in boxing all we
are doing is adding fuel to the fire in terms of alienating fans from
the sport. You ask why boxing fans snub the sport and reach for the
ridiculous arms of MMA? It’s because of the type of bullshit
performances and in-judging that we have to endure time and time again,
the same old feces we witnessed on Saturday.
That bout needs to
be ruled a NC and Pacquiao should be given his WBO strap back. I was
pulling for Bradley to win, but not like this. This is wrong. Very
wrong. Hype, lies, denial or mass confusion, what happened is what’s
wrong with boxing. And until something is done about it we’re going to
keep losing fans by the droves. You see, that’s what happens when you
feed people shit. They don’t like the taste.
