Young Guns Progress Report
By Julian Kasdin (July 12, 2006)
Last week Chazz ‘The Gentleman’ Witherspoon, 13-0 (7), fought what was easily the toughest fight of his young career against Michael Alexander, 11-1 (8). Before the fight started it seemed as if Witherspoon should have easily defeated his physically overmatched foe, but Alexander came to win and early on took the fight to the undefeated Witherspoon.

Witherspoon lost the first two rounds on my card, and showed that he has a lot to learn overall. At 232 pounds Witherspoon's power also seemed to absent against the 205 pound Alexander. While Witherspoon clearly has skill, his
defense needs improvement and he probably needs to lose some of his bulk to improve the snap on his punches.

In other news Jason Estrada, 6-0 (1), has called out ‘Fast’ Fres Oquendo, 26-3 (16), in what would easily be the biggest step up in competition for any fighter from the 2004 Olympics.

Hopefully this fight can be made, and hopefully Estrada proves himself to be part of the future of the heavyweight division. I commend Jason Estrada on trying to challenge himself against the best possible fighters so early in his career.
